Something I Am Working On
Last week my son and I made this. As you can see, we copied one that a friend of mine made for me about 25 years ago. If I make another one, I plan to put little drawers on the bottom. I still have to drill holes for dowels the thread and bobbin spools are stored on, and then I need to create wing pincushions. I have three options in finishing it: I can stain it, rub mineral spirits on it and leave the wood natural, or I can paint it. The way I choose to finish it will help me to determine what fabric I will use to cover the pincushion wings. The older one was finished using mineral spirits. How do you think I should finish the new one? I am leaning toward mineral spirits to keep the beauty of the wood, but I also think it would be pretty painted maybe a robin's egg blue. What do you think?

I love it!!! Sure wish I knew someone that did wood working. My preference would be the natural wood too, mainly because I would be concerned paint would show knicks after a while. Not only would I love to have one like yours, I would love to have one on a smaller scale while hand sewing and a place to put my thread, pins, needles, and little scissors.

Quiltingcandy, that is a very good point you make about paint showing nicks after a while. That is definitely something to consider. There are several variations of this sort of sewing caddy. I have seen a smaller baby chick, which I believe is what you would be interested in.
