MadMexican, You did an excellent job rebuilding the cabinet. I thought your machine might take cams because it looked as though the hood lifted. I love these old vintage machines. Many of them are beautiful and so well made. I have to force myself not to buy them because I so often see amazing deals. In my family, when I was a child, most of the sewing machines were Kenmore, so there is something nostalgic and personal about them for me. I have never owned a Singer, but I used them in Home Ec class years ago. The cabinet of your new Singer looks to be in great condition. Are you going to do anything to it or leave it as it is? I purchased a vintage Singer cabinet several years ago with plans to decoratively paint it and use it as a sewing table. It is solid hardwood with 4 large drawers that are tongue and groove. You just don't find that sort of craftsmanship any more.
You may already know this, and if not, you may find it interesting. Kenmore contracted manufacturers to make their sewing machines. If you look at the first three digits of the model number, you can tell who the manufacturer was.
117 - White
148- Soryu
158- Maruzen/Jaguar
340 - Necchi
385 - Janome

Great find. Show us the machine. It looks like a Kenmore, and they are sturdy tough machines that run for years even with abuse, ask me how I know.
Your cabinet rebuild looks mighty fine, wonderful job.
