I remember the book too. I didn't like it because I got very mad at the mother in the book and kept wondering how she could be so not caring about her DD. That was my take on it anyway. I need to re read it.

Steampunk has put tophats and corsets back in style, so why not spats? The ones in the pictures look like fun!

These were very popular in victorian times and were a normal part of a gents wardrobe. And during the time up through the 20's they were considered stylish for gentlemen to wear.

These were kinda in style during the hippie generation too. I remember having a green suede pair with fringe with matching handbag myself.

RedGarnet--that is an old pattern, isn't it? My clue was the price at the top! I recently threw away some so old they only cost 50cents. Why do we keep such? The sizing is soooo too small for today's woman.
