Stocking full of letters

I'm one of those teachers who had my 120+ students write letters....and let me tell you what the kids get out of it! They are practicing communication skills (without the horrid abbreviations that they use when they text!), they get to learn about other people who live differently than they, mine learn a lot about the military since I'm the mom of two active-duty servicepeople, they learn about not having what you want (the idea of being away from family at the holidays brought tears to many eyes in my room!) and they get to do something nice with no expectation of any kind of reward. I say that they kids get as much out of the letter writing as the servicepeople who get the letters. Glad your son enjoyed them....here's hoping we won't have so many to write next year.
