i was looking into relocating back to Rochester NY and was aghast to see that the property taxes are about 3x what i pay here in MN.

Our assessment is frozen but the rate still changes. :(
So it sounds good but hits the pocket book. Still cheaper than renting.

Jersey's too. Won't know what our increase will be as our fiscal tax year begins in August. We have a modest cape cod house on 100' x 70' lot and last year's property taxes were a little over $6,000 - and that doesn't include water, sewage and trash collection.

Never heard of a Homestead Exemption, probaby because there isn't any land left to homestead here in Jersey.

Sears is also talking about leaving Il because of tax increases.

I live in a rural IL county and was pleasantly surprised to get my tax assessment yesterday and see that my taxes will be lower in 2012.

How about all of you?
My home assessment went down but my property tax went up... how about them apples... oh and yes, I have Homestead Exemption.

We are appealing our new assessment. Won't find out until next month if it did any good.

About $5000 a year with school tax being the most. Borough and county taxes are about $600.

Thanks for this post. Having see a few other taxes (mainly East Coasters) I am feeling better about mine having risen $400 in the last few years. I blame myself. I voted for the levy to fund additional paramedics for our fire district and the funds to help build a new library (which we use and love). Would someone take away my voter registration before I bankrupt myself??? :)
