I'm happy to know there were some good stands of them this year, somewhere! Yesterday a friend and I drove up to the Brenham area (Brenham, Burton, Independence, Chappell Hill), and even in two places I know of off the beaten track that are usually covered thick in them, there was almost nothing. The color is very pale, the flowers sparse, and they're already going to seed. Although we had plenty of cold to break the seed pods open earlier in the year, we haven't had adequate rain. It's been a very disappointing year down here for wildflowers. I'll bet I saw only a couple a dozen Indian paintbrushes, and even fewer of any others... mostly evening primroses. Maybe next year!

I'll bet you have them, but they're probably white. Lupines (aka bluebonnets in Texas) grow in Colorado and even in northern Europe.

See the beautiful blue sky with those puffy white clouds? My idea of a perfect Texas day.
BEAUTIFUL PICS of our wonderful State flower - Thanks for sharing. You're right, they are usually really good in the Brenham area. We didn't get the good rains we needed, so they're not as nice as some in the past have been.

Our Young @ Heart Bunch from church is going on a day trip this Sat thru the Hill country from Liberty Hill to the Llano area, so looking forward to seeing some good fields on the way.

You obviously found some great spots & LOVE the pics.

Have a blessed day

Shirley, have you ever been to Wildseed Farms? They grow acres and acres and acres of wildflowers. It is simply beautiful when in bloom. Here's a link to their site.

And here's what is in bloom now

Also there is the Antique Rose Emporium in Independence, TX. Lots of antique roses. I've never been there.

Have fun on your trip.
Yes, I've seen the Wildseed farm - It's beautiful. Over 20 yrs ago I lived in Fredericksburg, but of course it wasn't near what it is today.

Have also been to the Antique Rose place, but that also was many years ago.

Have a great day

They are indeed lupines, only in Texas they're blue - ergo 'bluebonnets'. I've seen them in white, pink, and yellow, too, but they're not nearly as eye-popping as the blue ones.

What a small world! We took our two granddaughters (ages 1 and 3) out there Sunday and took their pictures! Wind was HORRIBLE, but we found an area where there was a bit of a wind break. I got some of the sweetest pictures of them. I am from up around Durant, OK.
