We've never put up our decorations until mid-December until this year. It's been 60 degrees this past week and last Sunday all the neighbors were out decorating. It turned into a fun neighborhood afternoon. Usually don't see them from Nov 1 til spring LOL. Hopefully we'll have another warm spell after Christmas to take them down--then I'll see my neighbors again!

PLEASE JUST TELL YOUR DAUGHTER THAT I SEND MY THANKS TO HER AND ALL THE OTHERS SERVING WITH HER.
TAKE CARE OF HER AND WE WILL ALL REMEMBER HER AS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL FOR TOMORROW AS WE ENJOY THE HOLIDAY.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING.......MARYJANE

We put our tree up either on Thanksgiving or on Friday...whenever my girls are around to help. Re: outdoor decorations- my husband does not get into outdoor decorating at all so I just put wreaths on the front and back doors and put out holiday doormats. We live in a farmhouse way back off the road and whatever decorations we might put outside would mainly be for our enjoyment, I guess. I have cut back on the doo-dads we put up in the house, as well. It is my personal opinion that sometimes less is 'more'. As much as I love looking at decorations and admire those who go all out...I know that the taking down and packing up would fall on my shoulders...and I just don't want to do it.

"Normally" I would decorate the house the week before Thanksgiving and then put the tree up on Thanksgiving. This year due to my work schedule---- everything is already up, lights on, and cookies are done and in the freezer! Gifts are coming along - one quilt to finish, one wall hanging to top stitch, and a casserole carrier to complete and a few small things. I'll start wrapping next week.
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend everyone!

When my children were small we put the tree up on Dec 21 and didn't have a lot of other decorations then.
Our youngest son's birthday is the 20th and we were always so worried he would think the tree was part of his celebration if we did it earlier!
Now he is in California and coming home this year and you can bet that tree will be up before the 21st this year.
I now start decorating a bit here and a bit there the 1st two weeks of Dec, then the tree goes up the 2nd weekend with a small tree trimming party.
It is fun hearing of everyones plans and special surprises before the big day

We too are snow birds and leave for Florida, after the holidays. Every year we say lets not put up all the Christmas decorations, only a few. So usually that is the day after Thanksgiving that we do that. (tomorrow, in fact) Seems we end up doing too much. So will see what we do this time. Where do you go in Florida? We have a fifth wheel r.v, so head for Southern Pines R.V resort. :)

My Mom and I have always loved decorating for Christmas! I usually put up my stuff around the middle of Dec. though. I'm one who likes to enjoy all the holidays...I like Halloween and Thanksgiving and don't like for them to be overrun with Christmas...so we wait a while.
Then come mid Dec...I will fill almost every surface with something Christmas. I inherited all of Mom's stuff, so I have enough to decorate at least 2 houses! DH loves all the lights and decos...so we'll have a colorful Christmas!
Then...Mom used to tell me that it was bad luck to have the decorations up at midnight on Jan. 1....smart woman that she was, I think that actually that was her way of getting me to help take them all down and put them away...but I'm afraid to take a chance  ...Mine are always put away by the end of New Year's Day

We don't start to put up decorations before the 15th of December. Then they stay up until Jan. 6th, little Christmas. When I was a child, we all hung our stockings and went to bed and Santa brought the tree along with the gifts. Guess I'm still pretty much stuck in that age.[/quote]
Pats8e8.......you mentioned about the stockings being hung..we also, as children, hung them from the mantel on Chrtstmas eve.
.........but on December 5th..we would go, with all the cousins, to our grandparents and hang the stockings for the December 6th arrival of St. Nicholas........a German tradition.
Two sets of stockings when we were kids...weren't we the lucky ones
