here in New England goldenrod is a weed. In old England it is a garden flower. Foxglove is a wild flower there -- and prized here. In Wales they considered rhodendron to be an invasive shrub.

And I plant lupine and hope it spreads in my backyard. I have seen gorgeous patches growing wild on several continents.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I copied the photos for my art book as a reference for a future painting. Beautiful! Thanks for showing us.

I call mine volunteers too. Especially now as I am slowly turning my flower gardens into low maintainence shrub and perennial borders.
The foxgloves and lupines are two of my best volunteers along with the spirea. Just hate pulling out and discarding spirea bushes when I paid good money for the parents. But man they pop up everywhere!!! I know the answer is not to let them set seed, but I just can't seem to keep up with that now, with my physical problems and all.

Here in Kansas, goldenrod is definitely a weed, too. But I did see some lovely clumps planted around a mailbox recently in full bloom. Hope the letter carrier is not allergic to the darned weeds.

Asters are wildflowers. I think wildflowers tend to be so Unappreciated. People in PA refer to Queen Ann's lace at WEEDS..OMG I think it is gorgeous! My friend's daughter got married in Florida a number of years ago. when her mother saw the flowers in her bouquet....there was Queen Ann's lace....she said, Maureen, those are "weeds"...she said well I paid big bucks for weeds then rofl. It was beautiful!
