its quite a common problem with dogs that have 'floppy' ears I inspect both my dogs every month and any sign - they usually look a bit dirty then they get the the treatment I can buy over the counter at the pet store - very easily treated - hope your dog is better soon

With the loving care you are giving Felix he has no choice but to get better.
My Standard Poodles have problems too because of their long heavy ears plus they love the pool so they usually get water in the ears. Have spent many $$$ at the vets however, I have been feeding my Poodles a heaping spoon full of yogurt every day now for about two months and the infections have stoped. I have several cats but one is always getting ear mites, started feeding her the yogurt also and the ears are staying clean. I might be worth a try for Felix.

I had a rabbitry once and that was a mess. We smothered them with mineral oil. SO when my gorgeous Shih Tzu, Chi Chi got the ear problem, Old smart me, I used the oil and that made it worse. I thought I'd made her sick. But the vet cleaned it out and took out some of the hair (that was new to me) and gave me antibiotic to give her twice a day for a couple week and some ointment. So we keep her ears cleaned and shortened. Your baby will be just fine. I'm like you, it was all new to me because we always had farm dogs.......tuffer than JYD's. lol Blessings, Ruth

Be sure to check with your vet. I had a dog get sick after stealing half a yogurt. My pets get pumpkin for their digestion though. :0)

Felix is adorable!

I make a habit of casually smelling their ears while they're in my lap (ew). They get a regular ear wash at home.

My sons lab had yeast in his ears, we had to treat him 2x's a day with the ear wash 'blue' then liquid antibiotic in it. Use the blue wash then swab out with cotton balls. Try holding down a 100 lb. dog to do that !!! After a few days he was acting fine and would not fight so much when it was treament time. His vet told him to treat him once a week to keep it at bay.
The vet also suggested when the big guy was laying stretched out to flip his ears back so that the air could get in them.

we got IVY tea cup poodle as a rescue from a home. she was 4 mos. The woman said she had wormed her and she had shots . Next day We brought her to theVet. not only did she still have worms but terrible earmites in both ears and Lice in her hair. Poor baby. Pills, drops and flea preventative in her hair, made her the adorable pup she is now. Hang in there and good luck
