We Louisianans love the Boudreaux jokes, but some make us realize all is not a joke. The Houma Indians and mix of other tribes and Cajuns living in the Dulac area were devistated by Katrina and Rita hurricanes. Our church (in central LA) does mission work in that area, as do many in the Louisiana United Methodist Conference. My first trip down after hurricanes Katrina and Rita was a real eye openier--huge boats crushed and washed miles inland, deposited all along the roadside; fisherman, oystermen, shrimpers all out of work, homes in a pile of rubble. Just as things are going better for some able to hang on, we had the BP oil spill.

You can't drive many miles farther south than Dulac (maybe 2) without driving into the Gulf. These proud people are still struggling to survive. If you want to see a part of the USA you never could have imagined, take a trip down to Dulac--Even better, make arrangements for a stay (free room/board) at the community center for volunteers and put in a few hours of hard labor.

I'm from Louisiana and I love those Boudreaux and Thibodeaux jokes. Some are so ridiculous, if your name was Boudreaux or Thibodeaux, you'd change your name.

I'm not from Louisiana, so I'm not entirely sure why the last names are funny. The joke was funny, but I don't understand the last name bit.
