I went for a few months before our trip to the tanning salon to prep my skin, and I wore 45 sunblock and I still got some crazy sun burns.

Which resort are you going to? We went to Gran Ventana resort, really awesome!
hacienda tropical beach (on playa confresi - is that good or bad?)

been to mexico a couple of times and to puerto rico. just no truly TROPICAL ISLANDS (puerto rico wasn't hot enough in december). i loved them both. we're petty adventurous, and i know all bout bugs since i have allergic reactions to most of them. yick. and LOL! flashlights are your friends.

The Dominican Republic is a beautiful place, but it's not exactly th place where you want to be venture outside of the hotel complex. Most people don't stray. But you'll be fine - don't let this worry you. A friend just returned and had a wonderful, safe time, but stayed on premise. As for quilt shops - don't think there are any. I searched all over the islands in the Carribbean over the years and they don't have shops like we do. The best I could come up with was a dry goods shop in Aruba and at that, they don't really carry cottons suitable for quilting. However, I could be wrong..............

Have a wonderful, relaxing time and enjoy that sunshine and warmth!

That's a bit further up the beach from where I was, but it looks like an awesome place! I checked out the photos :P I was at playa dorada :)
