So, I'm thinking this is the weekend if any I will get 'into the season' and do some traditional baking. For me, the tradition is Hungarian recipes, and my memory is filled with wonderful things that we had around the house this time of year. It's funny, my Grandmother was a *very* proud Hungarian, and I never even thought about the fact that the recipes we did were some shared by other European/Eastern European cultures, until I spoke with a Polish girlfriend about her Christmas traditions -and they were *so* similar! Silly me, I know.
In my 'it's early Friday and my hopes are not yet dashed' state of mind I'll be making:

Sunday Daughter and I will make our usual big batch of cinnamon rolls. I make a recipe times four of homemade light bread. She rolls it out smears with melted butter and sprinkles cinnamon and sugar mixture all over. Rolls them up, cut about 1-1/2" thick rolls and puts into a greased pan. After rising a bit I start the baking. I eat a bunch fresh out of the oven. Best eating ever. She doesn't care for them, neither does oldest granddaughter. Her Sons sure like them and another GS and GDIL.

Monday or Tuesday next week I will bake chocolate chip cookies to take to Granddaughter's for our Christmas Eve celebration.

count me out--my daughter and I are leaving husbands at home tomorrow while we do a one day dash (3.5 hrs each way) to my son's to deliver Christmas and have lunch with them. Imagine by Sunday I'll be wiped out. But I do plan to make some cookies next week--press cookies and maybe my great aunt's ginger snaps. Had hoped to get this done before we went to son's, but crazy week.

Today I hope to be passing the Chex Mix torch over to my son. He's the one who eats it, and I hope he can make it in the future with some guidance from me. I plan to make chocolate chip and molasses cookies early in the coming week (when not working on the Bonnie Hunter mystery). That's it for me until Christmas Eve when a French Canadian tourtiere is on the menu.

Oh nuts. I did my baking about 2 weeks ago. I love this idea. Maybe next year do it earlier? I baked choc chip cookies, ginger snaps, 2 batches Swedish tea cakes, peanut butter blossoms, 3 batches chex mix w/caramel sauce not the spice. Divided all the baking by 4. One container each of cookies and chex mix for 2 ds, 1 ddil and dh.

Yes...fun idea. Although I am watching my calories for the few pounds I put on while I traveled to California to spend thanksgiving with my kids (who I hadn’t seen in over a year), I have a couple cookie recipes I can put together Sunday afternoon while DH watches football. I also have a fun white popcorn mix that has Chex, peanuts, pretzels drizzled with a white chocolate peanut butter mix. I just ran across the recipe yesterday!

Jingle, Thanks for the ideas for cinnamon rolls. I was looking and trying to find something fun for morning coffee. I have some of the frozen bread so off to the freezer I go. Nice Christmas morning treat for just the two of us.

Just saw this, and I most certainly are taking part. Today I got five batches of cookies done and tomorrow will be brownies, shortbread, pinwheels and sugar cookies, and maybe biscotti but I've never made that before.

Today was Mint MnM cookies, then peanut-butter blossoms, then finger print cookies, then red velvet with caramel chips, and last was maroons. I've not made maroons before and they didn't turn out like I hoped. They taste good though.

I'll be putting together plates for my staff, and most of the rest will go in the break room for the rest of the office. Don't have any family around (no family for holidays is normal for DH and I) so I share at work. I love baking, but had to really cut back as I kept eating my mistakes and was that was not good. I tell people that is why I switched to quilting, I still make mistakes, but I'm no longer tempted to eat them!

I did make a big bowl of Tuna Noodle salad, enough for both Saturday and Sunday so DH and I won't have to worry about cooking something for dinner. DH is painting this weekend.
