A similar but not as devastating incidence happened to my husband. He had two AAA batteries in his front pants pocket. They made contact and began to get hot. A lesson learned without damage. This is a very important message.

I never knew this about batteries. This man seems very grounded and yet see how he panicked when the fire started.
When I was a child my father would have us all talk about various scenarios about where we might be if a fire broke out and how would we get out of the house. Our main focus was to get out and then we had a spot where we would all meet. He did this once a year. I think it would be good practice for everyone, adults as well as children. Maybe then we could act properly/safely in a moment of panic.
