Just spent some quality time in my hammock, watching the hummingbirds zip in and out from my feeder. The little buggers are so fascinating. Two of them actually collided in mid air, bounced back, cheeped frantically at each other for a moment, then continued the quest for the feederl

They are such fun to watch! We have one that keeps chasing the other hummingbirds away from the feeder. He will watch the feeder and then go after any hummingbird who dares to go to "his" feeder!

Our hummers just left Ohio about a week ago. I was filling the feeder every day or two all summer, until about a week ago. Now there is only a little bird juice gone each day, I assume by the migrant birds. Tell all my Ohio hummers I said "Hi" when they get to your place in the south!

Ours are about ready to fly south. I will miss the little buggers.

My Hummer made a nest right outside my LR window and we had two babies. Such fun to watch.

We still have lots of them in the UP of Michigan. We have visitors who are absolutely fascinated by their antics-they'd never seen one before so close. I'll miss them, too, when they take off.

No, sorry The nest is so small and so well camouflaged it would have been hard to get. The nest looked like a bubble on the tiny branch. When I first noticed it DH said I think it is a fungus on the branch. I watched and saw the Hummer keep coming there and then I knew.

Thanks for describing the nest. I have been wondering all summer long where they were nesting and what to look for. We have had quite a few hummingbirds this year and are hating to see them leave.

Did you know hummingbirds like tomatoes? I've lost four tomatoes to the little cuties. Ours will leave this week.

Thanks for the picture. I, too, have hummers and they have kept me busy this summer keeping food for them. I have moved a chair out under the tree so that I can sit out there and watch them. So much fun.

After seeing this one I think they are very hard to find. They are so small that they look like part of the branch.
