Don't think I will ever be an empty nester. Only have one daughter and three grand daughters. Someone is always with me. When my SIL was looking at a job a few hundred miles away, they ask if I would move with them. We have seperate homes (about 200 yards apart) Grand children are always having sleep overs at Nana's house.

Last year my oldest son got a job and moved 3 hours away, and my son is at college except during the summer. I thought I would go stir crazy at first. It has gotten a bit easier, but I miss the activity when they aren't around. I was 55 last year, and was widowed at age 49, so maybe that a reason why it was harder for me when they left the nest. Just me and my pets now.

I don't know how to answer this..lol..about 52..but none of them have really left..they all have come home at least once..we raised 1 GD..and we have a 31 year old son who comes in and out all the time..I would love an empty nest for a year or 2 !!

it was 1999- I remember because I took a trip to the UK and was whining how depressed I was that both our kids moved out together and at the same time! I was 50... probably going through menopause at the same time... It was still a memorable trip, group of quilters who commiserated with me very well...
Oh, yes, but the older one is still in and out every so often. We never know who is going to be sleeping in the guestroom, luckily they have never overlapped!!!

I was 46 when my youngest left home. It was like I didn't have a purpose anymore. I was a mom at 18. So I decided I needed a new goal in life. I went back to school. Best thing I ever did.
Funny thing is within one year, when I was going to school full time and working part-time, 2 of them came back home. One came while her husband was in Desert Storm and the other moved back from Vegas.
Now I am glad they all have a life of their own. Just wish they lived closer.
