Default How to get up from the floor after a fall.....

This video shows how to get up from a fall after dexterity leaves us . Since we are all blessed enough to be getting older, I thought most of us would be interested in how the video shows us how to get ourselves up after a fall, or otherwise getting down on the floor (like I have to do to clean the shelf under our coffee table). I thought she had some interesting ways of getting up.....https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ETgQD8QhZs

LavenderBlue, thank you for your concern.....I have fallen twice in the past year, and as I have arthritis in my knees, and bursitis in my shoulders and hips, it is hard to get up. I roll over and use a chair as leverage to help myself up. As yet, I've only been sore for a few days, but I'm not looking forward to the time IF anything more serious happens.

Thanks for sharing this -- it is something I think about. We recently installed a bathtub in our bathroom, and while it's wonderful to soak, it requires some maneuvering to get out safely. Off to watch the video!

Helpful for those of us that still may still pin baste on the floor. I remember how stiff I was when I used to do that.

Well that was interesting. My observation is that the fallen person needs a lot of strength in their core, arms and hips to get up from some of those positions. And the right objects to assist. Who has a sofa that has a pull out bed to lean on, or speakers that are not wired and right where we fall? I practice getting up without using my arms. It isn't always possible but I can do it a lot of the time. I suggest getting on the floor and figuring out how to get up, with whatever your body can do, and with whatever items you have handy, assuming no injuries from the fall. And practice this.

The young girl has a neat form...unlike over 75 overweight by (almost) hundred pounds and has bad knees. The last two times I have ended up on the floor, dh had to rescue me with his Maid-right cart. I can move into the front 'lip' with back side first, the scoot back into the cart as he lifts it up until I can get on my feet! We laugh, and I thank him for the rescue. It is like a turtle on its back, impossible to get up. I seriously think about a diet for a couple of minutes, but I love to cook.

Exercise is almost impossible. Household and cooking does some movement (exercise) for the joints. Sit-ups are impossible. YWCA pool means driving some distance. I can still enjoy quilting, sitting at my machine, cook in the kitchen and read in my bedroom. And have fun on the computer. I do get up every so-many hours and move around. And I do light house keeping, and laundry. And count my blessings. We are still able to live independent in our own home.

thank you for sharing--I definitely could use some of those ideas with 2 replacement knees. And I'm going to share this with my water wellness folks--several fall frequently and it's so darn dangerous. BTW, I highly recommend checking around for a water wellness class--I work at the local little hospital in the therapy pool--it makes such a big difference for all of us. And don't think that is your local medical center has a PT pool you have to have doctors orders--call and check--my classes do not require a doctors orders--just your choice.

thanks for posting - this was interesting. I can't get on the floor to see if these ideas work, but I will keep them in mind.
