My DH was finishing a two year tour of duty on Taiwan we were there with him and had gone into a hotel in Taipei to wait for time to board the ship we were would be traveling back to the States. He had gone out for something and came running back and told me to turn on the radio quickly. We were in shock. The hotel was filled with rotating military.so we opened our doors and met in the hallway trying to figure what was going on back home. And if it was going to lead to war. Two days later we had a memorial service in the military chapel. I still have the program and news papers from that day. The next week we were on the ship on our way home and it was a dark time for us all.

I was in kindergarden, remember watching it on grandmas b&w tv, being scared and hiding behind my grandpa in his big recliner chair.I knew something bad had happened, gm said the president was shot. I never knew at the time that incident would have on me, America and the whole world. We were all in a state of shock. the phone kept ringing and gm was calling everyone, (as if it was our family member). My aunt, mom and gm were crying about it, my mom went and got my brother out of school a bit early. the world was never the same, so it seemed. my aunt mourned the day for years. it was always a topic of discussion in my family, sowhen I was little, I thought we were related.

Same here, only we walked home from school. During the funeral, my mom was ironing and bawling her eyes out at the same time. I don't think she needed to use the pepsi bottle to sprinkle water on the wrinkled dresses that day. That is the first remembrance I have of her crying and us kids staring at her and the tv and not understanding the significance of it all.
