Hi and welcome bnquilter! We were all newbies and I still ask a lot of questions!
I also live out in the boonies of North Carolina, and this board is great for people like us!

My first class, the teacher talked about changing the needle after X hours of sewing. Before I could stop my mouth from opening, I had sort of confessed that I had never changed the needle. That would have explained the clunking sound...I have since made peace with my machine(s).

Welcome from Florida. We all get started at one time and we are all learning new things from one another. Don't be shy, ask away, there is always someone here to help you out. I love the tutorials too. It's so much easier when you actually see it.

Welcome bnquilter! Where are you in Australia? I visited Perth 2 years ago--in the Spring and the wildflowers were as gorgeous as I'd read about! I'd LOVE to return but it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and two trips would be asking too much so I'll just stay home in N.W. Ohio and keep quilting!! We have a great bunch of quilters here--I regret that I don't spend more time here.
