Try flipping the spool of thread over, sometimes the thread gets caught in the slit at the top of the spool when coming off. I've had this happen to me a few times. Welcome to the Board. Hope you enjoy it.

Try putting a drop of oil in the bobbin race and check your tension.

Welcome. You have come to the right place to get some answers. I had a similar problem and after I had checked everything I could think of someone told check fromwhich side the thread unwinds from. Duh!! I have sewed so many years. Guess I had to make it harder, My thread was coming from the front off of the spool. It is susposed to unwind from the back. Yes, that easy. Hope this works for you.
