Sunbonnet Sue could be used with each person 'writing' their name with a permanent marker on the white or light background. there is a pieced block called 'friendship block where the name can be embroidered or written. any block, whether it be a star, basket, or other design would work if you just have some background or spot that you can use a muslin or other plain fabric to write the name in. each person could do a different block (just state the size you want the finished block to be.....and maybe limit the colors: like deep cool tones, warm pastels, etc) and you could have a 'sampler quilt' when it was finished.
