Welcome from the Great State of Texas!!!!! There are several on this board from Alaska. My daughter lived in Kenia(always spell this wrong) for about 5 years. I spent about 3 months with her. I fell in love with Alaska and I do understand how remote some areas are, but really beautiful. Watched with interest when Mt. Redoubt was spewing. And by the way there is a yearly quilt show in Kenia "Quilting on the Kenia" The lady who ownes "Robin's Place" gets it together. There is also a lady who designs and publishes quilt patterns. The name of her company is Mt. Redoubt something.

Welcome to the board. I have been to Alaska twice on a cruise and have decided it is the most beautiful I have ever seem. Although don't know if I could stand all the day light and all the long nights.

I started to teach quilting and also have a very small group of ladies who get together to quilt, this forum has kept me inspired & has given me some great ideas! I just finished a cathedral window for my daughter's wedding which was last weekend & am now working on a simple cathedral window for my granddaughter who is 4, she picked out her colors & is helping with it!
I am so envious that you live on an island in Alaska. That is my dream. My DH spent several years in Anchorage in the USAF and he fell in love with Alaska. We have been back to Alaska several times. It is never enough!!
We are going to take another cruise there in September, but not staying over this time.
Do you have a picture of the cathedral window you made for your daughter? I would love to see it. I am just thinking of starting one, I have the white fabric, just have to decide on the colored fabric. Did you sew by hand or by machine?

Hi, I just drove through Soldotna last weekend, my daughter got married outside of Homer. Didn't get to go through Kenai, too many of us! I have several of the Mt Redoubt patterns (still have not worked with them) but love her designs! I will have to check out the Kenai quilt show!
