Hi!I'm Afton and I am a beginning quilter. I just made a baby quilt for my niece, a nine square pattern that was pretty simple. I hand piece and hand quilt. I find the handwork soothing, and it makes me think of the hand made quilts my great grandmother made for us as kids, I always admired them.

I would love some help with easy pattern ideas and hand piecing and hand quilting advice.

    Thank you!

dresdon plate, use the template ( 5.00's at JoAnnes) for true measurements. Assembly is easy for this.

Thank you! I love the dresden pattern, and how vibrant or quiet you could be with color, but I was worried about keeping seams even piecing by hand. I am really tempted to try though :)

A "Rail Fence", "Log Cabin", "Warm Wishes", "Disappearing 9 Patch (D9P)", "Take 5", "Yellow Brick Road", and the "Friendship Star Block" are pretty simple.

Take a look at Quilter's Cache and find a simple block and try a sampler!

    Good Luck! :)

I would say that Quilter's Cache is one place you need to go. She has the patterns rated by how easy they are. Tons of patterns.

Hello & welcome from NE Alabama. Do a Search at the top of this page & you'll find lots of easy patterns, also. My suggestion is to start with FREE East patterns & you'll find out which style quilts suits you best with practice. Good luck & we'll be watching to see you quilts.

Hello and welcome from Perth, Western Australia. If you like handwork, you could try English Paper Piecing...not just Grandmother's Garden, but 1000 Pyramids, Dresden Plate, Tumbling Blocks, all can be made using the paper templates for accuracy. Just use the search application here and also check out Youtube, there's heaps.
