Welcome from the Deep South. So sorry about your loss of your mother. Some people are very successful selling sewing supplies & fabric on Ebay. Especially if you have a very accurate description.

Allow me to share my condolences in the passing of your Mother. I've gotten stashes and have held "quilter's wakes" before where we go through the home and sort and prep what remains behind. It can be a lot and it can be overwhelming!
Did your mom belong to any sort of a group or guild? Is there a favorite quilt shop in your area she went to? You might be able to get people willing to help and share stories over the fabric. Typically you let the helpers keep what they want but mostly you will still have sorted leftovers! You can also look at estate auction companies to see if any specifically mention textiles.
When I decided to reduce my stash I mostly looked for ads/placed ads on Craig's List. I gave fabric and ufos and all sorts of stuff to textile art students, cosplayers, girl scouts, church groups, 4-H fund raiser auction, and my craft supplies went to an elementary art school teacher (budgets for such things are slashed to be almost non-existant).
On the other hand, I was lured in by an ad and I bough "Mary's Stash" of small pieces (under 3 yards, fat quarter or larger) at I think it was 50 pounds for $2 a pound. Lots of 80s fabric to go with my own 80s fabrics
I'd really suggest putting stuff together in large ziplock bags and selling them by the bag rather than try and deal with each piece.
Since then I've found this site which may be of interest to you, from an ad placed there on Craig's List not sure where you are but just went to New Jersey to see what I could find.

So far I haven't won any of the auctions I've attempted but some people got some great buys -- they just aren't as cheap as I am. The way the site works is that you follow their guidelines and post pictures of what you want to sell. They have bids like on Ebay where you can put in a min/max. The purchaser is responsible for picking up (and packing!) the items at the date/time specified and if they don't show their funds are kept and they aren't allowed to bid again.
