Welcome and hi from Ohio!
Check out quilting books from your local library. Start with small simple projects. Placemats, pillowcases for sewing practice. Small crib or child ans small throw size quilts are a the largest to start with. Check out quick and child quilt patterns for ideas. Take a beginning sewing and quilting class. If you can't afford for both of you to take a class, then take it yourself, then come home and teach your little one. Sometimes there are specific classes for children. You might be able to sit in the class, or offer to be a set of extra hands for the teacher.
There are several you tubes videos with children sewing and making their quilts.
Good luck to you and your little one as you begin your quilting journey. Keep us updated with your projects and progress, and we love to see pictures.
