Just a quick hello from Broadlands Virginia
well, I joined yesterday morning. I think I joined quilting board a long time ago but never could find my name or password, so here I am again.
I am a long long time sewist. I have made everything.
I just started this quilting hobby. I love it.
At present I am taking care of my 91 year old parents. They are a handful and I call them "the twins"
So yesterday after I joined here, I ran off and took them to a nice park on the Potomac river.Since I moved them here, mom has made a remarkable recovery and can walk very well.
Every day I spend time with them
It's a long boring story, two oldsters living in Annapolis MD, mom had a stoke, horrid recovery in MD rehab place, so I moved them here. They live one mile from my house in a first floor apartment.
They are moving to Ashby Ponds on August 4th, which is 4 miles from my house.
So, I just cram in sewing time when I can.
I really enjoy reading all of the threads here. So much wonderful conversation.
I am not sure how often I can post and comment, but I am reading a lot. All of you are so lovely.
I have a lot of sewing machines. The ones I use mostly are my Singer 316G and a 301A.
I have a White mechanical that I use for fmq.
I gotta run.
I really just wanted to say HELLO! (yes, I am loud) and how much I really enjoy reading such joyful conversation

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. We are called the sandwich generation because we are caring for both our parents and sometimes are grown children at the same time. Sometimes it isn't much fun being squashed in the middle. Quilting can help you keep your sanity.

I second Tartan's comments. My husband and I dealt with his parents and my mom (dad died many years ago) for a number of years. Both moms had dementia and lost control of bodily functions. They could not be left alone. My husband finally got his mother into a NH, and my sister and I were at that point with our mom when she suffered a stroke and died. At the same time, we were dealing with a son in prison and a son suffering PTSD and many related problems after two tours in Afghanistan. And we gained custody of prison son's two children after their moms lifestyle caused social services to remove them from her. We had to go to court to obtain custody, but they have now been with us over 10 years. In the meantime, all parents died. During that time my husband frequently asked, "What is so golden about these years?"

Welcome from PA. I like to read about living stories from the people of the QB and glad to hear your parents are doing well. My MIL made it all the way to 95 and I understand how hard it is for the elderly and for the caregivers. Enjoy all the time you can with them and add a bit of quilting, makes for a good day in my book!
