Welcome to the quilting board from Washington State. You will enjoy it here. :D

One of my new favorites is the jelly thimble. Most LQS (Local Quilt Shops) have them.

I also like the Clover Protect and Grip Thimble. It is soft where it needs to fit my fat finger!! I have tried for years to find a metal one that fits, not too loose and stays on my finger. Never could find the right fit. But the Clover fits like it was made for me.

I forgot to add, Welcome aboard!! You will love this site so much that your quilting will suffer because you are learning here all the time.

Hello. I use a thimble by Tommy Lane (she was on Alex Anderson's show many years ago. She is at all major quilt shows. She has a unique way of fitting you; her thimbles (all sizes) are attached to a board. You try on thimbles until you find one that fits and then order that one. I have an open one for my fingernail and it has a lip and dimples on the top to catch the needle. I had tried dozens of others in all types of material and none have worked but this one. I also use a cheap one on my underneath finger to catch the needle and send it back through the quilt. If you can't use a thimble, put a thimble on every finger and use them until you learn to use the proper (comfortable finger.) Good luck.

Greetings from North Carolina as well. I don't use a thimble so I won't be of much help there.
