The new Guy on the block
#1
This is to introduce myself. I am a 70 yr. old, married, retired, guy, who loves to quilt. I have been quilting for a few years now, and it just keeps getting better. My latest engagement in the quilting passion, is making various types of Bags. Shoulder bags, hand bags, shopping bags, computer/messenger bags, whatever type of bag I can think of, that will lend itself to quilting as the medium of construction. So far, they are starting to accumulate to an amazing degree, but I keep coming up with new ideas to pursue. Yes, I do make quilts, of a traditional nature for all of the relatives on the gift list, but these bags do consume more of my time that the more traditional quilting pieces. I love the 3 dimensional nature of the bags, I guess. It is more akin to one of my other hobbies which is furniture making/woodworking. I have made all of the furniture in our house, and I think of quilting as a companion to that sort of thing as they both lend themselves to detail orientation, and precision hand work. I used to sew clothes for both myself and my wife, but that has fallen off now that the quilting has taken over. I still do the occasion shirt, or skirt for my wife, but not as much as before. That about covers the basics for now. I am in the process of reloading a bunch of pictures from my old computer to my new Apple so I will be able to post some of my handy work when that is finished. I hope to become an active participant in this forum. So long for now.

Welcome John! I love to hear from guys who sew/quilt. It's a wonderful hobby and you are so right. The same precision that lets you make beautiful furniture translates to creating beautiful bags and quilts. Please share picture when you can.
I hope you enjoy this site.
