Welcome from Oregon. Sewflower was right, test drive and research. When I recently upgraded the research came first. And when I had the money I was ready to go. I got a Janome because they are very reliable and for the price give "bang for the buck." Just my opinion.

If you can afford it, having a separate machine to embroider with would be handy. If one machine breaks down or needs serviced, you will have a second machine to sew with
