just joined a couple of weeks ago and at age 70 recently finally forced myself to learn to use a thimble. 3 years ago started to do some serious quilting after I retired from running a small branch library. Love all the stores, fabrics and supplies that are available today. Not many choices when I was young. I live in Paso Robles, California.

    Welcome Joyce!
BTW I can only use a thimble on my ring finger.
    I knit "wrong" too...lol.

I learned to knit from a german lady in 1959. Hold the yarn just like I do when crocheting. You must be left handed to use a thimble in left hand.

Hello, and welcome from Idaho! I can't use a thimble and can't knit either. I crocheted very tightly and when I tried to learn to knit it was like playing tug of war. You could hear the needles squeak...

Ahh, lucky you, not far from the beach & sea! We used to live in the Fresno/Clovis area & could drive over there in an hr & a half! Love it here in western NC, & the beautiful mountain countyside, but I do miss the CA beaches too.... Enjoy this board, it's really nice! And welcome too!...

    OOPS everyone--
I'm the one who mentioned knitting, not Joyce the new member. I was just including useless info....lol.

Hi and welcome from Southern California! I also cannot use a "stiff or rigid" thimble-I found the leather bandand plastic thimbles from Clover work best for my needle pushing finger, and self-sticking "Thimble It" plastic pads for my underneath finger works best for me.
