Hi! I'm new to quilting as well as this website. I started to quilt to make memory quilts for my 3 brothers and sister. I have no idea what I am doing! I am taking my Mom's clothing and using this for my quilts. My Mom was such a special person to all of us. I wanted to make these keepsakes for my family. I would appreciate any and all help!

Welcome! I'm new as well, and I've found the people on this site to be very welcoming and full of ideas! How wonderful! As far as memory quilts, I made one for my aunt that placed in our local quilt show. I did a pictorial quilt of my grandpa and my aunt's son. I used Grandpa's jeans and dungaree shirt as his clothing in the quilt, and also used them as the main fabrics in the border. It was a wonderful way to preserve his likeness with his clothes. I never cried more in a project. His clothes still smelled of the farm...silage and dairy cows. It was very healing for me. Good luck with your memory quilts!

Thank you for your kind words! Your quilt is very beautiful! I am having a hard time cutting into Mom's clothes too. I remember how she looked in them, and how Mom loved life! My quilt is very basic. As I told a friend at work, "I'm not sure it is quilting I am doing, but sewing squares!" Some of the squares are Fence Rail and some are 6 in. squares. Mom's clothes were very small, so I am limited, especially since I don't know what I am doing, with my pattern.

Hello and welcome from central Alabama.

DawnMarie, I love the project you did with your Grandpa's clothes. What a great idea.
