Hello all........Are guys welcome here ????
Hello all my name is Randy. I'm a guy and finding that I rather enjoy quilting and wondering if I'm welcome here ??????
I enjoy camping and riding my motorcycle, but during the winter and when the weather is bad I have been quilting (trying to quilt). I have found it rather relaxing to do but it seems that my fellow guy peers have not expressed the same appreciation to this craft, and obviously poke fun about it. My screen name has two meanings and one is about my quilting....... LOL LOL When I quilted the quilts I have done (2), I have not done any sort of free motion design yet, it's all been in the ditch stitches. I'm learning everytime I'm at the machine and sometimes my points don't meet perfect and my stitches arn't the straightest, but I'm getting better. I watch videos on Youtube to learn how to do many of the things like binding my quilts with the machine. My favorite fabric is batiks and my machine is nothing new or special. It's a basic 10 year old Singer. I have found I can do almost everything I've attempted on it, but it gets a little harder to manuver the fabric once the quilt gets real big. Besides the two quilts I've made, I have also made coasters for my coffee table and pillows for my couch. I basicly joined this site to learn and talk with others that enjoy this as well. I guess that about sums it up for me and I look forward to reading, learning and sharing. Just don't tell my friends I'm here. LOL LOL :D |
Welcome to the board! Can't wait to see pics of your quilts!
Hi,& Welcome to the board from Ind.
Of course, men are welcome! Some of the best quilters are men! Happy to have you here and looking forward to seeing your quilts.
Welcome to the QB, I'm new also!! Happy quilting
Hello and welcome! I also ride a bike, hunt, fish, have lots of tattoos. My hubby is nicknamed Camo Keith. So yes, you are welcomed here. Everyone is great and helpful.
Hi Randy and welcome. This is a great board for sharing information about quilting.
welcome from Vermont. I am a beginner and have already learned more than I can ever do, but I enjoy seeing and reading all the info out there.
Welcome from the SHO-ME state - Missouri. We have several men on here and YES, we love to have you join us. A male perspective would certainly be different and may just give us some new ideas. Like I told my DH, a football coach should let a woman help design some of the plays in the game and see how much that upsets the opposition.

This is the first quilt I made for my bed with a matching pillow and pillow cases. I tied this quilt (I know the easy way out, but it was my first time). I also made a homeade picture out of fabric and hung it on my bedroom wall.

HI Randy and welcome from New York. Your quilts are beautiful.
Great job on your quilts! My quilting mentor's husband once observed...women are doing all the quilting and the men are the ones making all the money from quilting! There's plenty o' menfolk who quilt...glad you joined us.
Welcome from Arkansas! Your quilt projects are great! There are lots of men quilters, here's three websites you might want to check out: http://quiltfool.blogspot.com/ http://arkansasmanquilter.blogspot.com/ and http://www.quiltdad.com/

Hi Randy welcome from Quebec city, Canada. Of course some men do quilt, some also do needlepoint and some cook! Your quilt is really nice... You are at a good place to get addicted to quilting Beware!
Welcome Randy from NC. You might want to try the "Quilt as You Go" method of quilting. Then you don't have the problem of too much fabric under your machine arm.
Wow! You say you are a beginner? That's some quilt. Beautiful.
Welcome Randy. Your first quilt sure doesn't look like a beginner did it. GREAT JOB!!!
Hi Randy, welcome from NE Ohio. To answer your question, yes you are welcome here and so everyone else who would like to join us.
Welcome to our world. From the pictures you show, you definitely belong here.
Welcome Randy from S CA. You are really funny of course you are welcome here!!!!! There are many male quilters and I have to admit they are all usually very good. Check out Jamie Wallen, and Ricky tims on utube!!!!
Welcome from the uk. Good for you quilting. Your quilt is beautiful. My dear chap does not quilt but he is very encouraging and built me a quilting cabin in the garden. I think it was a ploy to evict me from the house, so he the dog and my two boys can have the house as a batchelor pad. I think you will enjoy it here. It is really friendly.

Welcome, Randy! You've sure done some nice work and have a good eye for color.
BTW I've been bitten by the Batik Bug too...love all of 'em. |
Hi Randy! Welcome to the board from Southern California!! It so nice to see a guy interested in quilting/fabric art etc, after all, some women like working on cars, construction, driving busses, in law enforcement, and in the military! Why not a man who discovers the benefits, enjoyment, and therapy of quilting? I wish my hubby would! The closest he comes is dropping me off at the fabric store while he makes himself busy elsewhere, and occasionally, helps me fold LOOOONG pieces of fabric after washing and drying!! Glad to have you with us!!!
Yes! We accept anyone that wishes to quilt. Man, woman, child. You'll love this board. It's very friendly and helpful. Good luck with your stitches.
I'm also finding I enjoy the piecing portion of making a quilt alot more than actually doing the last step of quilting. Is this unusual ??????

Welcome from North Dakota. There are lots of guys out there who quilt. Beware this site is addictive. So is getting a fabric stash and collecting vintage machines. There are some lovely ones on board.
Welcome Randy!!! There are a few other guys on here and you are most welcome to join in.
Beautiful work - better than anything I did at the beginning. Most of my early stuff became dog beds. So come on in and don't be shy. Comment, ask questions and just belong. Much better to be a participant than a lurker. LOVE the nickname btw. |

Besides if everyone LOVE the 'last part', there would be no market for Longarmers!!!!! |
Welcome to the board!
Everyone is welcome, EXCEPT for Quilt Police. I love your quilt that you made....are you sure you are just starting? I promise I won't tell your friends that you play with fabric. |
I love camping and fishing and quilting and I'm female.

Wow your quilts look a lot better than my first ones! And yes men are welcome here, and motorcyclists too :0)

Welcome. My 10 year old nephew loves to sew, especially on rainy days. Occasionally he asks me if it's ok for boys to sew. I tell him, yes, everything you learn to do makes you more valuable in the world.
That's true for both boys and girls! Explain to your friends that sewing isn't that different from carpentry. Both sewing and carpentry require precision, geometry skills, concentration and creativity. The big difference is that for carpentry you work with wood and a multitude of tools; for sewing you work with fabrics and a multitude of tools. |
I'd say you have some talent. It would be wrong to waste it. Have fun with it!
Welcome Randy. You certainly are in good company - many excellent male quilters here and elsewhere. A Notion to Quilt, local quilt shop in Massachusetts, had a quilt show last year with all male quilters showing their work. If you are single, this is also a great place to pick up girls, I bet. LOL Your first quilt is wonderful, so I'm sure you're on your way to good things.
Welcome to the QB from Oklahoma!!! Men are more than welcome. I think you did a fantastic job for your first quilt. Ready to see more of your creations!! This board is very helpful if you have any questions or issues. I think we'll grow on you!!!
