What a great group of folks this is!
To introduce myself, I retired from teaching in May and gave myself permission to be a quilter as a retirement gift. I have sewed all my life and made small projects that could be considered quilting, but I didn't want to take the full plunge until I had more time. I'm here now and thoroughly enjoying myself, but I'm having trouble focusing on one thing at a time. I want to do machine applique, machine quilting, piecing, landscape quilting, ..... Boy is this fun!! |
Hello and welcome from the UK! I took up quilting when I retired too. Don't know why I waited so long.

HI KVz,
My first trip to Fairbanks Alaska was in 1977 and yes there was really 1200 mile of gravel roads to get there through Canada. A long tireing drive but oh so pretty. At that time both my brothers lived in Fbks. A few year later after my father retired my folks moved up there for a few years. So both my brothers have been ther for many years. One lived on Badger Road for years and a few years back bought in North Pole. We moved there from Colorado Springs to Fbks Ak what a long move and lived ther for 3 yrs. After my folks had moved back to Oregon, so now all 3 kids are in Fairbanks. Loved the summers but forget the 7 months of white stuff... I got enough to last the rest of my life. After dad passed my mom is now up ther with both my brother's. They all thought we would move back up there.... surprise I love it her in Wa. And so we see then once a year at the family reunion. Ther is other chatter's here from Fbks also... Just type in Alaska and see who comes up... SO welcome and you will love it here. My brothers take shared time with my mom. I took care of mom and dad for years before dad passed so there turn now. They are both younger than I am.... Hope to see you in the chat soon... ConnieF |

Hello, and another Michigan welcome!

Welcome from North Florida Panhandle. I Lived in Alaska for 54 years before moving down south here in 2007. The winters just got too long and too cold as one gets older. I can say that I miss the summers the most, lots of daylight and the weather is just right. You'll really enjoy being a member of this large diverse informative group.

Hi
Welcome! I lived in Alaska for 16 years. About 6 of them in Fairbanks--the rest in Delta Junction. I loved the summers but don't miss the cold and dark winters. My youngest son is still up there working on the pipeline. You'll love this board. I'm mostly a silent reader but have learned so much from here. Happy stitching!! |
