Hello from Sacramento

Hiya all,

Pretty excited to be here. I'm a newb at quilting. My grandmother used to quilt all the time and made quilts for both of my daughters.

She passed away, but her quilts are still with us. I talked to my wife about how amazing the quilts are and have spent the last several months fumbling through patching and repairing them. I can't tell you how many times I redid some stitching or changed a patch because I found something better.

Now, I am embarking on starting my own quilts from scratch. As you can imagine, not many other guys out there doing quilts, so when I walk into Joanne's I am always asked if I am buying patches for my wife.

Thank you for having me and hope to learn alot here.

Welcome from Ontario, Canada. Start out with a pot holder or table runner and the tutorials done by Jenny Doan from the Missouri Star Quilt co. on YouTube are good.

Welcome to the world of quilting! Love it when guys get involved in quilting. About 45 years ago, I taught the first co-ed Home Economics classes. The guys were hesitant to do the sewing unit, but they really enjoyed making simple 9 block pillows. Recently, I saw one of these grown-up students and he told me he could still thread up a sewing machine and sew a patch on his jeans. I feel good about teaching a life-long skill. I also taught a simple crocheting unit that students really enjoyed. I saw the younger sister of one of my students. She told me she was always mad at me because I quit teaching when I got married. She said her sister learned to crochet and made wonderful things.

Welcome from New Hampshire! In my home-ec class (back when dinosaurs roamed the earth), we had the quarterback of the football team. In a different class there was another guy who made his own tuxedo for prom. His father had been away at war and his mother had taught him to sew when he was very young. My son took hom-ec in high school and my daughter did not. My son altered his Halloween costume a couple of years ago. My daughter cannot even sew on a button. Your grandmother would be pleased. There are other men on this board. I hope you enjoy it here. It is a great place to spend time.
