Hello from Bonnie Scotland...
Hi , I live on the west side of Scotland, and are 5 minuets over the hill from 'Loch Lomond'. It’s a very pretty area to live in. It’s also a huge tourist attraction area for people from all over the world.

I’m actually a Yorkshire girl, but moved up to Scotland 20 years ago when we first got married.

I'm a member of my local quilters, where we have monthly meetings, trips to quilting events, even to the other side of Scotland! We also have the option of attending a monthly workshop.
I attend as many 1day workshops as I can, as I like to learn new techniques and ways of working with fabrics. Quite often these new techniques I wouldn't normally have tried, or might not have even heard of.

Some interesting workshops I enjoyed were; 'Japanese folded patchwork' , J.R Squares, & 'cathedral windows'. When you think about it, these are really 'origami' with materials. I think that’s why I enjoyed them, as they were ‘different’.
I don't tend to turn my workshop samples into full quilts. But I do make sure I complete them, that evening, or as soon as possible that week. When completed, I put them on the wall.
Another thing I like about workshops is that they are like a 'taster' day. You can try something to see if you like the technique without making a full quilt. It gives you ideas as well, you can use in future quilts.
I do tend to like hand sewing more, I find it very relaxing in the evening. You can pick it up and put it down when you want.

I’ve been part of the local ‘Amateur dramatics’ group’ in Helensburgh, for the past 5 years (Helensburgh Savoy, we’re on the internet)
I was the ‘Wardrobe Mistress’ until recently. I just retired from it this year, as I needed a break. It was a huge job!

I don't normally talk this much, but that's me now introduced myself!!

i love the site BTW, and hope to be very much part of it!!

happy sewing everyone! love Jacquie xxxxx

Welcome from North Central PA. Visiting England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales is something I dream of doing some day. My grandfather came from England (Worchestershire, I think) and his mother from Wales. How neat to leave in a place that I have only heard of in a song - Loch Lomand!

You will love the board. It is a wonderful place with knowledgeable people from all over the world who are so generous with their talents! Oh, and don't forget! WE LOVE PICS!

I am so happy to hear from someone in Scotland. We will be touring there in a month. Can you tell me what I can expect in the way of prices for quilting cotton? I always like to buy some wherever we travel so I can make a journey quilt some day.
We have only been to London and decided it was time to see the rest of UK, including Northern Ireland. Anxious to hear from you. You can respond directly at : [email protected]

mccoyfj 08-24-2010 08:36 AM

Hi, I'm Fran in Washington State. My husband and I are going to be taking a vacation to Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Can anyone give me some pointers on what to buy and where? Also, in Ireland, what should we not miss seeing. We have been to Ireland before buy only in the South. I have been told that it is totally different in the North.
I have a friend that is coming to tour all of Ireland and would love to talk with anyone to get tips.
Anxious to hear from everyone.
