I have been viewing this site for a couple of weeks and love the way you interact and help each other. I have been quilting for a while, but still consider myself a student of this art. I enjoy challenging myself to learn different techniques--some work, some, well not so much.
I look forward to logging on and learning or putting my two cents in.

SharonC 06-26-2009 07:44 AM

Thank you for such a warm welcome. I am truly happy that I chose to step forward and join your group--my first ever. I will get some of my pictures together over the weekend and show you some of the quilts, TV Pillows, Quilllows and other projects that I've been completing. I love this craft, b/c it seems there's always a learning curve...never a dull moment.

I've been on your other posts but just wanted to say an official 'welcome'! Interested in your quillows - always wanted to make one of those...

PS - Tucson, Arizona makes me think of the Beatles song 'Get Back' - we sing it to my son because my daughter calls him 'Jojo'! He's really Joseph! :D

SharonC 06-29-2009 02:31 PM

K3n - I'll have to look for some pictures of my quillows. I know I have some...last Christmas I made all 5 grandchildren quillows so I could basically do one every 2 days :). You can make them plain or quite fancy. The pattern was in a Fons & Porter magazine...I'll find the issue and let you know when I get the pictures.

SharonC 06-29-2009 02:33 PM

Elle - I love your quote at the bottom of your post.

Hello from Rockford, IL

this is the best group I have ever joined, very helpful and friendly. Been in other groups and after the first round of welcomes I was forgotten and never listened to or responded too. Here it is so different, I went out the live chat and felt right at home. Hope you have the same experience and hope to see ya around the board!

Thanks Saron - that'd be great! I'm thinking a couple on the sofa would be great fro the kids! I could make the outside grown upish and the inside kidish! :D

No such thing - you KNOW that! :D It's a quilt lappy size ish that has a pocket on the back so when you fold it and tuck it in the pocket, it's a pillow. :D

Haven't found the magazine but here is a picture folded and unfolded.

k3n 06-30-2009 06:29 AM

Cooo-ooolll! So you just put the pocket on the back in the centre and make it, looks like, a twelvth the size? You should post that in it's own heading in pics - ppl would LOVE it!

Okay - I found the Fons & Porter Magazine, Issue Jan/Feb 2007, page 94. If you go to www.fonsandporter.com you could probably get a back issue, but I also found that if you go the SEARCH option on this site and type in Quillow there are posting about it with patterns. They may be a little different but generally the same thing :)
I would recommend you round the corners if you make one, because it turns nicer and I always top stick after I turn so it keeps it's shape...just trials and tribulations of making so many all at once.

Hello and Welcome from Arkansas! :-)

Hi and Welcome - I'm also from Tucson - Kristi

Always comforting to know there's a new quilter nearby.

Hi Sharon!
A warm AZ welcome from Lake Havasu City :D .
Thank you for your gift of service to us. It is nice to have you join us. Do you belong to a quilting guild in Tucson? You have some great shops down there and you live in a super town. Would love to have you join us in LHC at our annual Quilt Show the first weekend in November and also at our Quilting At The Lake retreat January 5 - 9. Check us out at havasustitchers.com .
Chris

busiacam 07-02-2009 09:18 AM

Maybe a group of you ladies from Tucson would like to take a road trip to LHC for our events. I would be happy to send you information. When my snowbird friends come back we could reciprocate and head on down to Tucson. Then we could all meet in Phoenix some time. There is no such thing as too much chocolate or fabric or friends.
Chris

speaking for myself - That sounds like a great idea - Kristi

SharonC 07-02-2009 10:44 AM

Chris and Kristi - I would love that. I will be (hopefully) in Hawaii in Jan :), but I would love to take a trip for your annual quilt show and my mum will be here by then so we can both go.

SharonC 07-02-2009 10:45 AM

Hi Marveen - nice to know there are some other quilters around. :) :)

marveenc 07-02-2009 11:13 AM

Where do you shop for your quilting materials?

Once WallMart closed I had to travel half again as far to the nearest
Joann's or Hancock fabric stores.

I've heard that a quilt shop in Catalina is moving to
Oro Valley or Tucson soon. They just had a huge sale to lighten the
load of inventory they would have to move. I'm crossing my fingers that
it is in Oro Valley.

Marveen
