A few years ago when I was knitting at a bus stop a lovely old man with a big Hungarian accent came up to me and said "Busy hands keep the devil away"! I thought that was so nice!

Thanks for your post, take care,

Hello and welcome from Perth, Western Australia. You certainly do have a lot of very worthy causes to quilt for. In regards to the quote above....my Nan used to say "Idle hands the devil's work make". So being busy is definitely a good thing.

Was your Nan Eastern European too? The saying has a distinctive cultural ring to it, must look it up on the net.

This board has such a cozy and encouraging atmosphere - this afternoon I tried to work QuiltPro for the Job's Tears block, gave up and did the 8.5" and 5.5" blocks using a ruler and calculator. Odd measurements are easier to change in metric I found! Also picked up a UFO and did one 18" thread of hand quilting just now. I'll post them as soon as they're finished.

Maybe I'll dig up the bicentennial quilt to post, I think most people would enjoy it. I'll have to figure out how.

Thanks again for your post,

Maurene

Welcome from Ireland

Maurene 06-18-2010 03:04 PM

Thank you, My name is almost Irish, but it is after two grandmothers MAUde and iRENE so spelled differently, but pronounced the same way.

Where in Ireland do you live? I see you've made a whole cathedral windows quilt - it looks beautiful.
