Hi, I've just joined. I've been reading posts for a few months and thought this sounded like such a great group that I should do more than read, I should join. My computer skills are none, when I was in high school taking secretarial classes we thought we were hot stuff getting an electric typewriter (IBM Selectric no less)!! So I'm in a time warp. At least some genius didn't decide to change the keyboard!!! I've been quilting for 18 years and teaching through Community Ed classes at the high school for about 6. I love many aspects of quilting, applique, paper piecing, piecing. I really lack skill at hand quilting so I plan to work on that this winter. Weatherman said on the weather today that we are entering a El something or another which means a colder winter in Minnesota!!! Great time to learn to hand quilt. I love the hints and ideas offered on this board which I'm sure will also help me get better at hand quilting as well as tips to offer my students, including checking out this board. So excited to be with this group. Well I just tried to get a smiley face inserted here and it didn't work. There's a little slice of the future for ya on my computer skills!!! LOL. I wouldn't expect any picture of my avatar anytime soon either. I'll get my kid to help me. Take care

Hi PiecesinMN! Welcome from NH. And yes, I too remember the IMB selectrics in High School. But all my jobs since I have been out of college required knowing how to use a computer, so I am used to it. The really technical stuff I leave up to me neice (she's a computer whiz). As you use the computer you will get used to it. I hope you get a chance to post some pictures of the quilts you have made. We'd all like to see them!

Hello and Welcome from Northern Indiana ! Glad you joined us
The more time you spend on the computer , the better/ easier it gets  You will have pics here real soon, I have faith in you |
Thanks for the welcome. I too love cats.
|
Thanks for the welcome. I'm sure I'll get the hang of the computer. I use a computer program at work all day, but it doesn't do anything with e-mailing, dowloading anything, pictures or other computer skills. If you need to rent a gym, I can make that reservation for you on the computer with no problem. LOL

I'm two exits south of Stacy in the Circle Pines area. I have haa few quilts quilted from the Quilting Sisters (could be wrong about the name) and they are located in Stacy. So we are not far at all!!

Welcome from Illinois. My first year of typing we had the old manual ones, got a few selectrics the following year but only the best were allowed to use them on a regular basis. The year after I graduated everyone had them. But the keyboards have changed! The one I'm typing on right now is split wider in the middle and curved. It's also raised about 2 inches and has a wrist rest. It's supposed to be all ergonomic and does seem to relieve the wrist stress a lot! Enjoy being aboard.

Welcome to you. I joined today as well. Have fun!!!

Welcome from Anoka! You will love it here!

Anoka :-) My older son and his family lived in Andover, then Ramsey, and now Plymouth. I can't remember the name of the author who wrote several stories about Anoka.... One of her stories about Door County, WI is Bittersweet???
Sylvia ----?? In any case, big hugs sent to quilters to and from MN. Love the state. Hope you'll participate on the board. We share and learn so much from each other. Pieces, at least when we practice our hand quilting skills this winter we won't have mosquitoes bothering us! Welcome from God's Country in Michigan's Upper Peninsula :-) |

Is the author LaVyre Spencer? I don't think I spelled her first name correctly, but I remember reading Bittersweet a long time ago.
|
Pieces --- I asked for and received an Olympia manual typewriter for high school graduation in 1964. Hehehehe
Shemjo --- Yes, it is LaVyre Spencer. Thank you :-) MNQuilter --- WI/MI border along the Menominee River at Iron Mountain-Kingsford. Henry Ford built a large factory here in the 1920's to build wood frames for cars. In the WWII years, the plant made gliders. Area originally settled upon discovery of iron ore in Menominee Range. |

Welcome from St. Paul, Minnesota. I didn't have to hear that we are going to have a colder winter. Last year was bad enough! Just ask my checkbook!!!!! There was a commercial on tv a few years back from our local gas and electric company, Xcel Energy, and they had a singer on singing the song from Ride of the Valkyries (the music from Apocolypse Now): Welcome to Winter
In Minnesota Here is your fuel bill Ha Ha Ha Ha!!!!! Anyhow, inside is always the best place in the winter here and what else is better to do than quilt. A nice hot cup of tea, something to listen too. I can sit at my sewing table, look out the window to the east and see how much snow is on the ground, if it is raining, or, if like today, it is looking gorgeous, but we are supposed to have donner und blitzen (thunder and lightning (in German)). Well, the lightning puts nitrogen in the ground and the thunder scares the bejabbers out of Miss Bess, to your left!! Again, welcome! Where in Minn are you located? I have yet to see someone from St. Paul. AM I THE ONLY ONE???????????? Have a good day! Edie |
Welcome from Az. and hopefully Mn. soon if my house ever sells. Sounds crazy moving from a warm climate to the cold of Mn., but have great quilting friends there and miss them.
