Get a few smaller projects under your belt before tackling something big. The Quilt in a Day book series have good step by step with pictures directions to help you learn the basics if your not one of the guys who refuses to read instructions.

Welcome from Southern California. I have met other men who enjoy quilting too so you are not alone. I always thought of a sewing machine as a power tool. Instead of a blade that cuts, it has a needle that attaches fabric together. Ever since it became know that Rosie Grier, football player for the then LA Rams did needlepoint, men have come out of hiding to make terrific craft projects. I look forward to seeing you post pictures of the items you make. Have fun with sewing with your mother. As a little girl, I enjoyed sewing with my Grandmother.
