signing your quilt
#2
Kellie,
I embroider a label for my quilts and then applique the label to the back of the quilt.
The running theme on this site is "In quilting there are no rules." So feel free to do whatever you want and are comfortable doing.

Usually I use any permanent pen I have close at hand to make a label. I've used Sharpies, Pigma pens, etc. Anything that is permanent & won't bleed! I've also printed a label on my computer, then drawn over the lines with my pigma pens & colored in the image & then sewn it on the back of my quilt. Sometimes I just write right on the back if I've used a fabric that reads as a 'solid'. Do what makes you happy! :D

I always use a backstitch straight stitch in the botton left corner, with my initials usually, unless it's a family member. And the year. Try to get a close up of this one. This is how I signed the quilt for my daughter. The quilt is made from scraps from dresses when she was a little girl. Hope it shows up for you. Sara

I usually use the "made especially for you" type that I can get at the quilt store. I just write the name of my quilt, who it's for, anything special about the reason for giving the quilt, like for a wedding, my name, the date, and where I live and applique it on the back. If I don't have a pre-made one, I write all that on a solid fabric and applique that instead. There's no wrong or right way to do it, except to make sure that whatever writing implement you use is permanent. I also press with a hot iron to be sure the ink is set.
