This is wonderful if you are making quillows. I use this a lot for 45 x 72 quillows for graduating seniors. Thanks.

    Dear Kim,

Thank you for remembering that episode; it was part of my Super-Sized Nine Patch Quilt. If anyone wants to watch it, (it's available to U.S. computers only) links to the videos are on my blog's sidebar.

HGTV changes the links from time-to-time so I keep the sidebar links current. The complementary pattern PDF in Quiltmaker Magazine is linked on the sidebar too.

The techniques simplify group efforts when making community quilts.

Thanks to all who replied but I guess I'd better do it the old fashioned way with a binding because I want to quilt it and that appears not to be a good idea if you birth the quilt.

I'm making this for my sister's 82nd. birthday to try and cheer her up. Her DH of 62 years has azheimer's and she's not coping well since she doesn't drive and can't get out. He's beginning to go downhill quickly.

I use this method frequently, although I put the batting down first, then the backing, then the top (backing and top RST). Then you can pin and when you sew, follow the edge of the top for the 1/4 inch seam.

I did have one disaster when the backing was not smooth and I ended up with a terrible ripple down the back. I think it would be chancy if you are planning to FMQ.
