I worked it out - the rectangles are all the same size - to make a square, the length of the rectangles need to be the finished length of the square plus 1/2", the width needs to be 1/2 the finished width plus 1/2", so a 4" finished square needs to be 2.5x4.5", a 5" finished square needs to be 3"x5.5", a 6" square needs to be 3.5"x6.5", an 8" square needs to be 4.5"x8.5", 9" needs to be 5"x9.5", 10" needs to be 5.5"x10.5", a 12" square needs to be 6.5"x12.5"- Just make sure you fold the middle square in half and catch it in the seam like she shows in the video - really easy peasy, don't need to overthink it.

I feel like I came home today. I have not been on the forum for over 2 years, nothing wrong with here just life. Decided to make the 5 minute block from Suzanne's YouTube video, since I had so much success with her 10 min. block. Cut all my rectangles 8.5 X 5.5 based on my best guess of size. Well that was a failure. I spent all afternoon trying to figure out what went wrong then a light went on and I remembered the dear old forum. Success at last, cut the blocks to 8.5 X 4.5 and it worked the first time and every time. Thanks to all you girls for your help. I am off and sewing the blocks with a smile on my face. Missed this place.

I made the 10 minute block quilt with the diamond centers on point for my BFF for Christmas 2 years ago and did not have a problem. It came out beautiful and her and her husband love it and have it displayed in their living room. Her husband liked it so much I decided to make the 5 minute block on for him, which is the one I am sewing now. But this one was a bear to figure out until I came here and found the solution. Love it, all in creams and browns. I am less stressed now that I have the answer I needed.

I have this book and are now up to my third project from it , so very easy to do , this time it is the largest block in the book with my own twist to it and it is a Queen sized quilt for my granddaughter .
Great book would recommend it all , Cathy (Australia)

I got her book for 10 minute blocks. Very pretty. Used it to make my first quilt.

I like the 5 minute blocks also. May get her book and give that a try. Very versatile

Thanks for posting.
