    Default Dementia Quilts

Wow this may be a great way to use up many fabrics that are given to me and what a great idea. I am going to contact a local nursing home to see if they would be interested. Also I have read if you can use fabrics, and items that the person had it would also help them.

My husband says everything I've made him is too heavy! he likes his light weight plaid print flannel. just one layer with fringe cut edges. Wish i could find him something to help him at night. He thinks many people live here.... I never know where they go.

The ideas are great, just one word of warning, do not put safety pins on the quilts.I have seen brooches attatched and they can be undone and cause damage to the sufferer. For many years I made books and I included zips and velcro fastenings, plus things such as suspenders and bra clips --- brought back memories for ladies and men!!! A really lovely project, I think I may go back to making my fabric books. Love Letty.

Thank you for the link. I have a family that has 3 autistic boys and wanted to make these for them but didn't have any idea as how to design them. This site is great.

While I agree the idea is great, I found the article rather demeaning. Putting a zipper fly on a man's quilt so he could 'maybe remember what it meant to be a man'??? There's a whole lot more to being a man than zipping and unzipping a fly. Good grief.
And why would a female AZ patient need an unstuffed teddy bear to kiss and suck on? The quilts are great but the article writer really turned me off.

I will admit I am a little biased on this subject but need to say something. Please try to think outside of the nursing home box for other places where others can also benefit. There are many caregivers that are taking care of loved ones with dementia. If you know someone that is a caregiver ask them if they would like one for their loved one. If anything the home caregiver needs more distractions than a nursing home staff because it is often 24/7 for them.
