Here's a tut about a way to quilt as you go that uses a one-piece backing. It's sort of like paper piecing, but the vertical rows are "pieces" and the backing and batting are "paper" (You don't have to tear it off when finished, though). http://quiltingreadersgarden.blogspo...ilt-along.html

I bookmarked it. Looks like a sturdy quick quilt for charity, baby, or a lap quilt for the elderly in wheelchairs. Thanks so much for sharing this.

It is a bit like Missouri Star Quilt Co., but I don't think she used the backs as binding. Compare some of these ideas here in the quick video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl_OPPpXNLM . In this video she doesn't do any stippling, but does the strips attaching as you go through to the batting & backing. She also doesn't start in the center, but starts at one edge & goes all the way across. I can see a concept of combining bits of both of these methods, as I do like the stippling very much.
