Who Knew! Wish I'd seen this yesterday. Last night I ripped out a 20 foot seam that I had sewn wrong.

Well, I guess that you can teach an old dog new tricks. I have been sewing for over 40 years and never knew that.

I once knew a lady ages ago that worked for a men's clothing store shortening the sleeves of mens', dress shirts. She used the seam ripper this way but used her sewing machine presser foot to hold the fabric taut. She could take the cuff off, cut off excess fabric and sew the cuff back on in under maybe three minutes or so. This same lady would run out on her lunch hour and make $25 (35 years ago) altering fur coats.

$8 for shipping? Out of sight for this interested party.

I knew that. I just cut every three or four stitch and then pull the underneath thread. I want to make sure I don't cut the fabric.

I don't rip the seam from the inside, I do it from the outside. At the end of the seam I want to rip, I take the seam ripper and take out about 3-4 stitches. I then go about an inch down, and cut the stitch. I have enough then to grab and pull, and the thread comes out. I turn over the seam and lift the loose thread, again cutting a stitch around an inch down and pull out the thread. There are no little bits of thread and the fabric does not wrinkle. Works for me.
