I do it like maviskw said. And I don't even have to get up from my machine to join the ends of the binding. It works fine every time and there is no measuring involved.

I'd like to add that this method would also be great to use if you have to splice in a piece of binding. (You're gonna ask me how I know, so I'll just tell ya.) I was happily sewing my binding on when I came to a regular splice in the binding that you make when you sew your strips together. This seam landed right on the exact same spot as the corner..augh! What are the odds? I tried to make it work, but there was just too much bulk, so I took out a 10" section of binding and spliced in a new section that didn't put the seam right there, but further down the line a few inches. Worked like a charm!

Thank you for posting this tutorial. I do something similar, but I'm definitely going to try it exactly like this.
