I've always used human hair.. you dont get the weight but the natural oil in hair keeps the pins sharp, if you want it weighted, make a small base piece filled with kitty litter or long cook rice ( uncooked of course)...

I bought a big bag of walnut shells at my local pet shop, its used to line bird cages.

only in pet stores, I've seen them called "lizard glitter"...don't know why. :roll:
