Does anyone have a "pedal stay" for your foot pedal?

Have you tried one of these? I saw it advertised recently, but want to know if it really works. Here is a link to one http://www.pedal-sta.com/pedal-sta.html I am not promoting this...just wondering.

homebody323 05-24-2012 04:56 AM

I've seen them, never tried them. My pedal would never have the courage to get away from me - the consequences are too great! LOL.

Happy Linda 05-24-2012 05:27 AM

You can use a piece of rubber mate. The kind that goes under a rug to keep it from slipping. Works really well.

RUSewing 05-24-2012 10:47 AM

Yes, I used the one with velcro on the bottom of my foot pedal and on the stand. It was okay. but I had trouble getting the base/my foot set comfortably with where I was sitting to sew. Mine did better on carpet, but scooted around after we tiled.

quiltingcandy 05-24-2012 10:52 AM

I haven't tried it - but read where some people use the old mouse pads.

delma_paulk 05-24-2012 01:45 PM

Go to Walmart and buy you a roll of the rubber stuff to keep rugs from moving.......cut you out a square and put u under your foot petal. Works like a charm and I find all kinds of uses for the remainder of the roll. Got the smallest roll I could find and was not costly.

I have one & really, really like it. My little Featherweight foot pedal is fairly light & likes to scoot aroundso this really has been helpful. I just wish it were tipped (at an angle). I think that would be a more comfortable way to sew.

vondae 05-24-2012 08:04 PM

Ditto what delma__paulk said except buy it at the $ store. Even cheaper than Wal-Mart. Works for me.

Quilter'sNook 05-25-2012 02:55 AM

The pedal will only 'travel' as far as the cord is long. I shortened my cord by tying it.

Quilter'sNook 05-25-2012 02:57 AM

I turn my pedal around so that I'm actually depressing the high end of the pedal to sew, not the hinged end.

star619 05-25-2012 03:13 AM

I bought one, but found it made no difference at all. I thought it was because it was being used on carpet, But RuSewing's entry above would tend to discount that theory. I still have not found a satisfactory solution for "pedal creep".

KarenR 05-25-2012 03:20 AM

If your peddle is moving why don't you use the stuff you put on shelfs that is like a rubber material? Don't know the name of it - but dishes will not slide.

ILoveToQuilt 05-25-2012 04:41 AM

I have the pedal stay II. Does not work well on hardwood floors as the back slides along the floor defeating the purpose. Does work well on carpeted floors, however.

BuzzinBumble 05-25-2012 05:12 AM

I PIF-ed one here on the QB, hoping someone with carpeting could use it, because it didn't really "stay" on our hardwood floor. Ended up gluing a piece of that rubbery shelving material onto the back of my presser foot and that works much better.

sharyl 05-25-2012 05:15 AM

I have on. My pedal still slips. I think the piece of stuff that you put under rugs sounds great!

coopah 05-25-2012 05:25 AM

I turned my Pfaff foot pedal upside down...works great without moving around.

lfstamper 05-25-2012 05:43 AM

I had one for a while. The felt pad separated from the plastic bottom. I loved it when it was together. I tried different glue to repair but no luck.

akisan 05-25-2012 05:54 AM

I got tired of hunting for my pedal under the bed, chair or table. I bought one of these and now I don't have to hunt for my pedal. It stays where it should be. You won't be sorry.

A friend of mine who was having back and leg problems said her PT told her to do this, among other things, to ease the pain when she's sewing. I'm not sure why.

DebbE 05-25-2012 06:02 AM

I have the 'I' version & it doesn't work very well - every hour or two I'm chasing it down again to get it back into place. I have an area rug on the wood floor, and it doesn't grip to the carpet very well. So save your $$, as its a product that doesn't work!

I really like the old mouse pad idea, will give that one a try instead.

DebbE 05-25-2012 06:04 AM

Just read the idea about gluing a piece of backing used to hold a carpet in place -- that sounds a great idea, too. I'll try that first, and then if it doesn't work, will go with the mouse pad idea. All the sharing of ideas is one of the very best benefits of this site....we all benefit from all the combined knowledge and experience!

i use a chunk of the rubbery shelf liner that is poufy/rubbery stuff that comes on a roll. it's great on shelves, under a kid's butt in a high chair, and under hubby's plate on the table (he has parkinson's, and slippery things are a real pain for him). the cost is pretty small for as much as comes on a roll, and i use it all around the house/camping, etc. makes a quick coaster, too...

judykay 05-25-2012 06:49 AM

I just use a piece of the rubbery stuff that you use to open stubborn jars.

My, see simple logic works each time.....never thought of that...thanks.......

AnnaPP 05-25-2012 07:27 AM

I had one of these, but no longer use it. If you have carpet in your sewing room, I found putting some velcro on the bottom of the petal makes it cling to the carpet and it stays put.

Nell Dwyer 05-25-2012 08:19 AM

I have carpeting, and had trouble with foot pedal traveling-solved it with shelf liner-rubber stuff-glued it to bottom of foot pedal, works like a charm-stays put-cheap, and also put cork contact paper on my other machines pedal-that works well too, and was cheap also.

gmavis 05-25-2012 11:32 AM

We now have laminated flooring in the living room and I like to keep one sewing machine in there so I can watch TV and sew. I solved the problem by taking a bathroom rug (rubber on the bottom), turned it upside down, so the rubber was on the top and set my sewing machine on it. Now I have the rubber pad to keep my foot peddle in place. And, I can easily put my sewing machine up and scoot it close to the wall, out of the way if we have company. :) ( I had an extra rug, so no extra expense)

Dawnmarieodya 05-25-2012 12:00 PM

I also use the rubber stuff you put in drawers in kitchens cabnets and men's tool boxes. It works great for under your sewing machine too. A lot cheaper that what I just saw in the pictures you sent. Good Luck in what ever you choose to do. God Bless Have a great.Memoral Day

fayeberry 05-25-2012 12:41 PM

Ellie,
I turn my foot pedal around, too. Use a block of wood to prop my foot up high enough. This is on my new straight stitch Juki which cuts the thread if you rock back on the foot pedal. Like the machine, but not that part.

MimiBug123 05-25-2012 01:49 PM

I use rubber waffle weave drawer liner from the dollar store and turn my pedal upside down. Works beautifully!

Linda-in-iowa 05-25-2012 03:35 PM

I'm with gmavis. I bought a cheap pretty bathroom rug with rubber backing. Stays put nicely, holds the foot pedal where I need it with just a little creeping, and provides a soft cushion for my heal as I sew.

deedum 05-25-2012 06:18 PM

I actually have one of those pedal stay, (it was given to me) it is ok, but it still moves around! I think the best thing is the thing that goes under the rug

mrs. fitz 05-25-2012 07:33 PM

I heard somewhere that turning the foot pedal around back to front will keep it from wandering.

jitkaau 05-26-2012 03:37 AM

I just use one of those rubberised drawer liners which cost $2.

stchenfool 05-26-2012 04:02 AM

Great idea - I use that stuff under my sewing machine, keeps my machine in place and my notions (that I use next to my sewing machine) intact. Love it!

MaggieLou 05-26-2012 05:51 AM

I haven't had any luck using carpet backing or anything else and I've tried a few. It looks to me like the pdeal-stay would slide around on a vinyl or tile floor. I'm ready to super glue my foot pedal to the floor. LOL

DanaNVa 05-26-2012 09:50 AM

I tried using it with my pedal on carpet and had no luck. I threw it away and am using a piece of the rubbery stuff you put under throw rugs to stop them from slipping. Works like a charm.

I bought a rubber tread for stairs and cut it to size at the local home improvement store. My pedal never moves! Not sure about on carpet.

matraina 05-26-2012 10:25 AM

I use the rubberized shelf paper - lots cheaper!

Marge L. 05-26-2012 12:21 PM

Yes, I have one. It works fine if you have carpet, but on other surfaces it could be better. I don't remember where I got mine. Just know that it was when I ordered fabric from some place. I don't enjoy chasing my foot pedal around either. I did try putting a piece of the rubber shelving under it. Helped some, but not the best.
