Carol THANKS!!! This was an answer to my prayers!!! I've been "procrastrinating" over this quilt that I want to finish as it's been a UFO much too long.... the last bits....some seams that I didn't want to make straight, what fancy pattern (haven't got many on my machine) to use, etc. etc.... NOW it's done.... with this idea :) It's not quite as wavy as in this example, it still show the point of the zigzag but it's looks good to me. Will keep it in mind as I'm not a freehand quilter, too frightened to even start, a few waves is OK and otherwise it's all in the ditch or next to it or just plain straight accross. I suppose we all have our own gifts, not everybody is good at everything - it would be too boring!!! :)
Thanks again!!!! Elfi

Thank you for posting this tip and links to view how it is done. I love filling up my quilted brain with more ideas.

I have done that several times. I like it because imperfections show up less.

I have used the serpetine stitch on my Baby Lock. Used it on a baby quilt and it looked great. After seeing this though, I'll be using it more often because it really does look good.

Thanks for posting this technique; I had not seen it before. I got up and checked out my Pfaff Expression 4.0 and it has a beautiful serpentine stitch #74. I will certainly give this one a try. I love this board.

I have this stitch on my Walmart Brother AND can do it on my 1959 Necchi Supernova Ultra....using the 3-stitch zz cam and stretching it out. Used it on 2 Minky-backed lap quilts I just did and on a baby quilt just finished. Am so glad to see it's in fashion now cause it sure simplifies things til I learn to do more "fancy" FMQ, and looks good too! Will try to post a closeup of the baby quilt, the lap quilt pic doesn't show the stitch well.

I use this all the time putting my binding on. Looks great on both sides! Will need to try it in the quilt itself since it looks really cool.

Can you use the serpent stitch with a walking foot?
