Oh Noooo! I thought I'd have untill the 15 th , Not quite sure what to do now. I don't have 1 1/2 yards of anything  . Because of the price of fabric here I usually only buy fat 1/4s or 1/2 m occasionally one metre on special but it has to be a dang good special  Am going to the city next Thursday so could get something then. Mmmm wondering if I could get away with using scraps again for the star points, maybe use the same colour for each block, might make one up and see what it looks like.
Hope you're feeling betta now Donna, If there's a next time, I'd definately go for the legal high

2 Doods 05-10-2008 08:37 AM

Well all of you are doing better than I am!
I am still on step 2. :(
A bit embarassed about that but I have been super busy. My goal is to catch up with all of you! I hope this week or maybe by next week. :?

mary705 05-10-2008 08:43 AM

You will get caught up 2 Doods. I still haven't decided on my yardage yet, so this step right now is kind of sitting there.

DonnaRae 05-10-2008 09:43 AM

Shelly, Thanks and you are right "if there is a next time". I sure hope not. I go June 27th for a full exam and to decide what to do with the rest of the old teeth.  :D Well I just finished sewing step three, I am getting ready to iron, then step four. I am stuck on colors also. The colors I though I was doing was close to Bonnies but then I saw the blue is only 3/4th yard and that is the fabric I wanted to use up. Like her orange is 2 yards, red 1 1/2 and black 1 1/2.

I wonder how it would look if I made the blue the 2 yards, black 1 1/2, gold 3/4 yards then I am stuck on the last color to go with the black and gold. Any Ideas?? Help??/ So my colors so far are black, blue, and ?? and gold. Did I confuse you all :?: Any Ideas.

mary705 05-10-2008 09:54 AM

purple, pink or green may work

Yeah, I was kinda leaning toward green. I have a realy nice reddish pink, but if I dicide to keep it, my DH is not a pink kinda guy. He loves gold though, so that is why I wanted a lot of gold. Maybe I should just not do blue. I am still thinking. Probably the whole thing will change. I know you know how that goes :!:   :D

Only too well :D

PamH 05-10-2008 02:21 PM

I haven't had time to cut my yardage yet, but i went to joanns yeaterday and got black w/white dodads kinda stars, and maroon for the stars and than burnt orangeish/brown for the 2 yds of material.

Oh and I also got a rotating mat (it's only an 8 inch square, but i can tell I already will love it.) i hade a 40% coupon so it only cost me $7.00 now I will get the bigger one. I wanted to see if I would like it before I spent more money. When I get another good coupon I'll use it on the larger size.

mary705 05-10-2008 02:50 PM

I have both the 12" and 17" rotating mats, love them both, and did use the coupon for each of them. The store didn't carry the 17" one, so ordered it online along with another item or two and got free shipping.

I will look through my fabrics tonight or in the am to see if I have anything to use, if not, JoAnns here I come cause I need to get a couple of other items for a garment (sort of) project I am going to make.

mary705 05-10-2008 07:44 PM

awesome Pam

PamH 05-10-2008 07:48 PM

Thanks Mary,
I like the fact we get to see a block come together on this step

mary705 05-11-2008 03:05 AM

Me too, it's starting to look a lot like A Quilt now.

DonnaRae 05-11-2008 07:14 AM

Very fancy Pam, I like it.. :D

DonnaRae 05-11-2008 07:32 AM

Okay everyone. I received this addy from another group I belong to (never do much, just read the emails) and went to it and boy was I supprised. Check it out! Hey and she makes the blocks two at a time her way. Anyway you'll understand after checking it out. Here it is.

http://www.treadleon.net/quiltshop/TrailtoTreadleonia/trailtotreadleonia.html

OOPS, I should have taken longer at the site. It is not the same. Seamed like it at first.

ShellyQ 05-11-2008 11:25 AM

Nope you got it right Donna, the size might be different, didn't check, but that is how I made my split 4 Patches for this quilt. If I can find a way to avoid messing with triangles I will lol  . Couldn't think of an alternative way to make those half blocks tho, so just had to bite the bullet, so to speak

Sure looks a lot easier! So I guess the moral is don't always follow directions? Hee Hee.

ShellyQ 05-11-2008 02:44 PM

It is and it isn't, you gotta get that 45 degree line really accurate otherwise you got a big mess. On the other hand my biggest prob with triangles is that I tend to run off towards the end, also I have an old machine that has very high unadjustable pressure on the foot, which tends to push fabrics out of alignment, so any way I can find to sew fabrics together before cutting is a good thing for me :P . I've made quite a few of those split 4 Patches, I've got a stack of 400 four inch ones somewhere that I made for a quilt :? , not assembled  , Not sure where they are, How do you lose 400 quilt blocks

DonnaRae 05-11-2008 04:04 PM

I don't know how you would lose 400 squares, but I am having a good laugh. Those little squares must be like dust bunnies and are hiding out

ShellyQ 05-11-2008 06:32 PM

Sorry if my post confused, they are 4" squares, 400 of them, which I spose makes it even worse really.  They'll turn up one day, when I'm looking for something else

Four inch :?: LOL That makes it even funnier :!: :D

Quilting Aggi 05-12-2008 05:11 AM

Hi everyone!!

I am back from my trip south and ooooh boy have I got some serious catch up to do!!! I knew I would probably miss Step 3 while I was away, but geez, now there is a step 4!! I see I am going to be sewing up a storm this week!

I have been home a week, but was sick with a nasty viral infection I picked up while hiking in the Cuban Jungle high in the mountains.. I was off work a full week in bed getting over this bug. I am back in the office today and heard the boss is away until Wednesday, so I can catch up on the messages and see what new stuff is happening! I read through everyone's posts here and I love how everyone's blocks are looking!!

Missed you all!!

Cheers!

DonnaRae 05-12-2008 06:20 AM

Wow Aggi, sorry to hear you got so sick. I thought you were suppose to be back a week ago, but then I thought maybe I had it wrong. Well besides being sick when you got home, did you have a good time? Any pictures to share? Well I just finished step three. I really have to decide what I will be using for step four fabric. I had decided but now changed my mind, because I think the colors are too muted. Oh well, I am just going to have to put some colors in it my DH may not like. I think what I will do is take a pic, of my original colors and get some advice from everyone. I am terrible at colors. Really! And I am also a little color blind. Have a lot of problems with blues and purples, and yellows, golds and beige. Tch,Tch. Okay off I go to get some things done. Will post pictures later so you all get ready to honestly tell me what you think. :-o

Quilting Aggi 05-12-2008 07:25 AM

Hi DonnaRae!! Its good to be home again. Looks like I have alot of sewing ahead of me. For now I will work on Step #3 and then Thursday night during my sewing group I will take all the blocks I have made so far and choose the best fabrics to go with those blocks. I have a couple in mind that might work. I think I will have to look for more shades of my blue, green and yellow to continue making some of those blocks as I think I have used up what scraps I had put aside already!!!

Yes we had a wonderful time and we took well over 800 photos!! LOL Mind you I won't be posting that many here LOL!! I find choose my favourites and post! We did soooooooo much and only spent one full day on the resort!! The rest of the time we were on excursions and wouldn't get back to the resort until supper time. We would be in bed before 11 as we would have to get up early the next morning to meet the bus at 8am for our next adventure!!! I keep a travel journal and still have so much to write in it. I want to get to that soon before things are forgotten!!!

I will post photos of what I have done so far with this mystery quilt soon!

Cheers

PamH 05-12-2008 06:19 PM

Glad you had a good time Aggi, but so sorry to hear you ended up getting sick.
Take care of your self.
Happy sewing

Glad you're feeling better now Aggie. Here are my star blocks, I've just made the 4 so far to see how they would look with different coloured star points, I used solids and semi solids. I think I'll be able to get away with it, because repeating the black helps pull it together. It will be interesting to see whether I'll be able to figure something out when we get to the next step

mary705 05-14-2008 02:26 AM

Those look Great Shelly

Quilting Aggi 05-14-2008 02:45 AM

ooooooooooooooooh Shelly I LOVE your blocks!!!! the black makes them more dramatic!!! I am hoping to get cracking on Step 3 before the weekend if at all possible. This is a long weekend here so I hope to get some sewing in. I am hoping to take all of Monday to sew my little heart out!

mary705 05-14-2008 02:51 AM

I'm going to go through my stash to see if I have enough yardage, but if not, guess i will have to go shopping. (what a shame) lol

PamH 05-14-2008 03:55 AM

Shelly I love your stars they really pop.
I haven't gotten any more done on mine, I started a new job this week so hopefully I can sew some tonight.

DonnaRae 05-14-2008 07:41 AM

Shelly, they came out awesome, Good Job! I still am deciding on my colors. I did not think of using more then one. Hmmm, that may just be the answere to my dilema. LOL.

Quilting Aggi 05-14-2008 08:59 AM

ooooooh I want to get sewing on these steps but I'm here at work and wishing I was home handcuffed to my sewing machine :(

I picked up a couple more colours of green, yellow and blue on my way home from work yesterday.

mary705 05-14-2008 12:25 PM

Got my fabrics picked out, cut the six 3.5" strips and started cutting the triangles and would you believe I could only get 19 from each strip, so had to cut an extra strip of each color, which I do have extra anyhow, but just a pain to have to move things to cut an extra strip. Most quilts I will cut an extra strip anyway, but with this I didn't want to, because we are obviously going to use thes colors for something else too, cause there was still quite a bit left of the 1 1/2 yds.

DonnaRae 05-14-2008 02:30 PM

Well I finally made a decision on my fabric and it is totally different then what I started with. I have to start ironing then cutting. Busy busy. But I love it. :D

DonnaRae 05-16-2008 07:08 AM

Well everyone sure has been quite lately. Are we all busy sewing? Well just to let everyone know I again changed my mind on my fabric. But this time it's for real. I love the fabric I picked now. But I did have to go buy some new to make me happy. So back to ironing to start cutting and sewing. Hello all you quite quilting people. :D

Chele 05-16-2008 07:10 AM

Working on my step 4 blocks. ShellyQ, I may have to make another mystery quilt in your colours! So bright, so me! LOL! Happy sewing to everyone!

PamH 05-16-2008 09:38 AM

I'm still working on step 4 too. Hopefully I will get done over the weekend.

ShellyQ 05-16-2008 10:15 AM

Still working on step 4 also. Lol Chele, I'd wait and see if I'm able to work anything out for the next step, I just may come a huge cropper lol and be left with a pile of star blocks I don't know what to do with  So Donna, are you gonna give us a sneak peak of your final decision re fabric :P

imaquilter 05-16-2008 05:53 PM

Everyone's blocks are looking great! I need to get mine done this weekend! I am so far behind. Still on step 2. I will get there! I just want to get caught up before the final step comes out. I don't want to ruin the surprise for myself.
