Row By Row Experience 2016
How many of you are going to hit the road soon for this year's Row By Row Experience? It starts on June 21 and goes through September 6. The theme is Home Sweet Home and, from looking at their website, the rows are going to be lots of fun this year.
Here's a link (hope this works) to the website for more information and to access the lists of participating shops for each state (and Canada too !! ) --- http://www.rowbyrowexperience.com My DH is currently entering a list of shops in Arkansas and Missouri into a GPS for our little road trip later this month. Can't wait to see all the wonderful rows this year. |
I had No idea this was even a thing! I looked and there are stores in my area participating. How exciting!
The chance to do something different And maybe win a prize of....what else? More fabric? Perfect! |
I'm hitting road too! I'll be going thru MS and AL. This year I'm just collecting the license plates. There have been some really cute quilts made from them.
I don't drive so I will be stuck in my apt. I did a lot of quilt runs in So CA and with the price of gas, I just stopped doing them.
We've got several new stores participating in SD, so I'm going after those ones as I didn't get them last year. I think we've got a total of 21 stores in the State. At least most of the "new" ones are within 100 miles of my house, so it won't be a big deal. Too bad they are in all directions LOL!!
I won last year at the store closest to me. I wasn't planning on it, but it turns out no one else had turned a quilt in by the time I got mine done in August. I'm going to see if I can win again this year, but not at the same store. |
Hmm- was looking at SD "rows" on facebook - I'm not a big fan of applique, but it looks like more and more shops are going that route with their blocks. Almost enough to make me change my mind and skip it.
I got hooked on the row thing last year and it was really fun I am waiting for it to get started but I can only go to stores in parts of Montana and Wyoming however I did find some neat ones with left over kits that I could order on line after the 1st of Nov. last year so hoping to do the same this year anyway it does make a fun visit to quilt shops so hope everyone has a great time this year as you explore the shops.
I've done it for the last two years and will be hitting the road in a few states again this year! Great fun.
I just saw the row by row at the quilt shop where I work. It is not horizontal but vertical. A real beauty. We also have a different license plate from last year. Hugs, omacookie
I participated last year for the first time - mixed experience, both good and bad. Very disappointed that some shops did not feature any of the fabrics from the line affiliated with the project, something that wasn't apparent until I got home and opened the kit. I think I'll skip this although I do like the fabric line this year.
I am taking a trip between wny and cny. Yeah!

That is exciting. I will be traveling this summer in the northern states. Will have to shop...
I'm so excited! I'm flying to North Dakota to see my best friend's new grandson, and we are taking a road trip to Canada for a week and a half to see the sights and find as many quilt shops as we can! Then in August I'm going to Ohio and Indiana. Fun for this Arizona gal!
I spent WAY too much money last year, and still have not sewn one row yet!
I have done this for the past three years. And I am so excited for this year. I have trips (for work that will take a little detour!) in PA, WV, OH, NY and MD. WooHoo!!
I really need to stay off of that site. I have already found several I Need!

I had the best time on our trip to Alaska last year. My husband and I treated it like a scavenger hunt. This isn't the best picture, but it's the best souvinier I've ever got on a vacation.

I do applique but most of it is over the top. I think it will discourage a good amount of people. The rows are beautiful but too much applique and too complicated. |
I am excited because I got to help design the row for the shop where I work! I hope we do well with it. I think it is pretty cool.
can you post a pic I would love to see it and bet others would to I am hooked on the row quilt I can't go that far but I have gotten some in the mail after the 1st of Nov. if they have any left
Yes, I can hardly wait for June 21st. I ordered the coordinating fabrics from Hancocks of Paducah. I will hit 4 states this summer.
Clicked on the link and so much info. I checked our state and ones that are close and looks like there are several stores I can get to without a lot of trouble. I may have to start a list and plan some short trips. Hubby is supposed to go out of town for several days around the 21st of June - just in time for the start up! Or if I go with him, I can add another 3 or 4 states. Decisions. Decisions..... Thanks for the link.

Went to website suggested here for info....found my state....long list of quilt shops...now my question....does each state have a different design or does each shop within the state, along with state designs.
went back answered my own questions..? |
I am so looking forward to this challenge. I am meeting up with a friend from MO in Orlando in two weeks, and since she has lectures to do part of the time, I hope I will have enough time to hit the shops. I'm renting a car that has good gas milleage.
Only 9 more days until the Row by Row Challenge begins! We've made our hotel reservations and I've been researching which shops to visit and getting them entered into our GPS. There are lots of rows being posted on the Facebook pages for the individual shops/states which helps a lot when deciding whether or not to drive the extra distance to visit a shop and get their row. I'll be at several shops on the first day so the enthusiasm should be high. Hoping we'll get to all 15 shops on my list in the three days we will be on the road. If not, a second trip to another area may have to be planned....LOL
Got my travel plans set. Used Quiltinghub.com for the shops between Paducah and Florida and cross referenced with the row by row shop participation. It made a difference as to which shops I'll take time to visit. I'll miss a few because I'm traveling on a Monday.
Congrats on winning last year. That's really great! I was surprised that no one had turned in a quilt by Aug.

Wow....the last couple of days have been hectic but fun. My DH was a real trooper during all of this. We visited 16 shops in two days and drove almost 500 miles. Here's a photo of my "stash enhancement" and some of the rows I collected. Now for some sewing.....LOL.
[sorry for the upside down photo....don't know why it downloaded that way] |
I've been looking at the themes folks have picked and was astounded at how many birdhouse themed rows there are. Pelicans are common around the Gulf Coast.... Magnolia blossoms in the deep south. Looking at the State's photo galleries is a mini art exhibit in itself :-). Longhorns and bluebonnets in Texas (anyone surprised by that one?) So many applique rows, too.... I prefer piecing. I have two kits so far... This weekend will have me tooling around picking up more patterns.

I love several row by rows in the Houston area and I live 6 hours away and drive that far. Can you purchase the kits and have them mailed to you?

I finally got a chance to do some sewing on my Row by Row quilt. Almost have 3 rows done....just need to add the embellishments and writing in some areas to finish them up. The next rows in line are pieced instead of applique so they may go a little faster. I can't believe that so many quilts have been completed already. One of them was completed and taken to a shop to collect the prize the day after RBR started! I don't anticipate "winning" anything since there are only 4 shops within 100 miles of me but I'm having fun doing these rows. Here's a photo of my not-quite-finished rows so far. Anyone else have photos of their rows to share?
here's mine so far. I've got one I've not started yet, and plan on picking up three more Friday.
Here is my progress so far. I have not done anything that I can't do with my straight stitch machine yet. I'll have to thread up my embroidery machine to finish some of these. http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psvcsuoblt.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pszdkpqlgu.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psmikawtld.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psnvkgqhp1.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...ps9qlkw2xa.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pskj5wtfyg.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...psvxdrhtmr.jpg http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...pszhe0mbfh.jpg |
Wow, love the rows. I'm just on my 2nd row!
